Group therapy programme

Group therapy provides a safe, compassionate space to explore common experiences, understand what contributes to your difficulties, and learn practical tools to support your well-being.
Learning alongside others can help you gain new insights, feel less alone, and build confidence as you move forward in your recovery journey.

Self Refer

At Talking Therapies, we offer supportive, evidence-based groups, predominantly delivered using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). These groups cover the following topics: 

 

Understanding Series

A three-part introduction designed to help you understand your difficulties and explore the support available.

· Includes: Understanding Depression, Understanding Anxiety, Understanding Trauma

· Each group runs for three sessions, online via Microsoft Teams

· Explains why symptoms occur and what can help

· Introduces the Talking Therapies team and local support services

· Includes videos, testimonies, and evidence-based information

· Required before moving forward with your care package

 

Depression Group

6 – 12 sessions, online via Microsoft Teams with some face-to-face availability

Learn how thoughts and behaviours influence low mood and how to make positive changes.

· Recognise unhelpful thinking patterns

· Set small, achievable goals

· Increase enjoyable or meaningful activities

· Reduce isolation through shared experiences in the group

 

Generalised Anxiety Disorder Group

6 – 12 sessions, online via Microsoft Teams with some face-to-face availability

Understand how worry works and learn tools to manage overwhelming anxiety.

· Challenge persistent “what if” thoughts

· Reduce physical tension

· Gradually face fears with guidance

· Feel reassured through shared experiences in the group

 

Low Self-Esteem Group

11 sessions, online via Microsoft Teams

Build confidence by challenging negative self-beliefs and developing self-compassion.

· Identify unhelpful beliefs about yourself

· Practise self-compassion and assertiveness

· Develop a more balanced and kinder self-view

· Learn alongside others with similar difficulties

 

Sleep Group

6 sessions, online via Microsoft Teams

Improve sleep quality by changing habits and managing night-time thoughts.

· Understand what disrupts sleep

· Create a consistent sleep routine

· Manage racing thoughts

· Reduce unhelpful sleep behaviours

· Make gradual changes with group support

 

Long-Term Conditions Group

6 – 10 sessions, online via Microsoft Teams

Support for people living with any physical health condition to manage emotional and practical challenges.

· Safe, compassionate space to share experiences

· Explore how thoughts and feelings impact symptoms (e.g., pain, fatigue, stress)

· Learn practical wellbeing strategies

· Build confidence and coping skills

· Benefit from shared learning and mutual support
